Laura Linney is an American actress who is popular for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Born to a well-known playwright's father but was raised by a single mom, who earned her living in the field of nursing, she was drawn to theatre when working with her father during the summer then pursuing acting studies, first at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway soon after graduation, she appeared in films within two years, and then on television following a year. Since then, she has appeared in countless films and stage and television productions. Through her entire career, she's won numerous awards. These include 2 Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. In spite of the array of awards acting has been her passion first and foremost. She has continued to appear both on stage and screen.
